I’m very gratified that people are reading and talking about the book; check out this great review in Publishers Weekly and on Brain, Mother (the blog to the top parenting magazine Brain, Child), in addition to this thoughtful review in Library Journal (you can read a PDF of it here on pages 5-6, or at the B&N.com page for the book), along with discussion in Dance Teacher, which recommends the book, on Slate, and on orgtheory.
Academic journals (which operate on a slower time table) are starting to review PLAYING TO WIN as well. The first appeared in the American Journal of Play and the second in Sociology of Sport (with a great line at the end, “This book is a must-read for scholars interested in family, childhood, and stratification. It would also be a thought-provoking text for undergraduate students, many of whom may have participated in competitive activities throughout their lives.”).
PLAYING TO WIN is listed as one of the Top 12 Education books to take to a desert island by Parent Map. It is featured as a recommended parenting book by SAIS (an organization that serves and accredits independent schools) and the Collierville Library in Tennessee.
It was the subject of an excellent book club discussion at The Brilliant Book Club: Illuminating Reads for Parents (The first set of five entries are available here: Mommy, for Real; omnimom; Urban Moo Cow; Left Brain Buddha; and School of Smock!. Click here for a link to all from the second set of discussion!).
